Cool Blue DIY

Tia and Juan's Oct. 16th reception included lots of DIY elements in a combination of turquoise and several shades of lighter blue. From the small favor boxes to the thank you card tents, the personalized features Tia and her sister, Jacky, definitely had a subtle impact on the look of the guest tables.

After of the past eight years of weening myself away from stark white table linens, I knew it was the right backdrop for their reception the Treasure Island Community Center. When we had our first meeting in February, the girls and I had a frank discussion on the use of turquioise and the bright orange they wanted to incorporate into their flowers.

We looked at several past events where those colors together reminded everyone of the classic Howard Johnson's motif. It was decided that the reception flowers would compliment the blue hue in fresh hydrangia provided by wedding florist, Carmen's Flowers. Our 10" and 7" clear glass cylinders were utilized along with submersible LED lights and alternating petals and blue gel fill.

This look was especially striking on the long dual six-foot table sections (the only table option at the center). Chair ties and napkins were in turquoise. We also installed white, Robin Egg Blue and turquoise Chinese lanterns over the dance floor which what in the center of the long table configuration.

Another personal touch were butterflies with each guest's name pearched on the edge of their water glass.
