Boho Styled Wedding at The Sunset Beach House

There is no better place than the beach to celebrate a wedding. And if you are lucky enough to host it at a private vacation rental for a "wedding weekend," the benefits are numerous. 

Such was Ellen and Sean's vision for their wedding. Both had worked for us in the past and realized that the Sunset Beach House on Treasure Island, was the perfect setting for their laid-back, boho styled fete. 

Ellen's mom, Rita, also had been a long-time staffer who knew she wanted us to caterer and handle the details for her daughter's day.

I can't emphasize the word privacy enough when recommending a private rental home for a wedding weekend. Not only do you have the privacy and seclusion of a beachfront in a residential neighborhood (not on a busy resort beach area), you don't have shared space with anyone other than family and friends!

You can bring in all of your own food and libations. No bar tabs. No pricey hotel restaurant food. . . and all wedding-related activities can be held in one place throughout the whole weekend. 

AND your wedding pictures on the beach won't have a lot of strangers in sight!

Ellen and Sean had mostly bridal party members stay at the Sunset Beach House with them (18+ guests). And because of its convenient location, there were lots of other small condo and short term rental cottages within walking distance for other close family.

Both Ellen's sister, Kate, and son, Andrew are former staffers who left us to go off to college!

Rain Brought Special Blessings to This Wedding

We adore destination weddings here on the West Coast of Florida especially when everyone is a non-local. From the bride and groom to the family and wedding party, no one has a presumption of how things are SUPPOSED flow for the day,.

Luckily our Atlanta bride, Anne, kept in constant contact with us about the weather predicted for the week of her wedding at the Sunset Beach House. She made certain she secured a tent for at least the guest seating area in case of summer rain showers.

As it turned out, some of her wedding day was dotted with rain. But because of the added tent, spirits were high and the stress level low. 

Heavy showers began about 45 minute prior to the ceremony start time. Everyone took shelter in the house indoor space, but mostly in the tent and under the front entry.

When the rain started to subside, the photography team hustled everyone to the beach for the ceremony in record time. 

After the ceremony, the reception was practically rain-free. Our only challenge was to dry off chairs, soaked buffet items, and other exposed event tables not under cover.

Hand-passed appetizers reflected the Taste of Tampa Bay station menu the couple had chosen for dinner. The three stations included Tarpon Springs, Gulf Side, and Ybor City. We freshly fried coconut shrimp, calamari, and empanadas (under an umbrella in the rain)! Other tidbits were gazepacho shooters, brushetta,, and spanikopita.

With everything being outdoors, the Sunset Beach House did have some covered areas where the dj and his equipment could be protected.

In keeping with the blue color scheme, we decorated each station with a different color combination along the back porch deck.

Our Gulf-side station featured a nautical presentation with a whipped potato topping bar. Thank goodness for the mason jars which we were able to keep capped until serving time!

Highlight of the evening was our Latin Quarter station with a displayed Marinated Mediteranean Salad and our fabulous Paella started from scratch about an hour and a half prior to serving. This was a challenge dodging the rain.

Our Tarpon Springs Station featured a displayed Greek Salad with potato salad in the center along with hummus, and a carved Gyro meat where guests could fashion their own Gyro sandwich with Tzyki sauce, shredded lettuce, sliced black olives, and cucumber slices. Deep fried Fallafel prepared on site completed the station.
